General

Is your bicycle, moped or scooter no longer where you parked it? The council will remove them if they are parked in the wrong place, are causing an obstruction, or have been parked somewhere for more than 28 days. These bicycles, mopeds or scooters are stored in the council's bicycle depot. You can pick up them up there by making an appointment.

Check if your bicycle, moped or scooter is in the depot

First check if your bicycle, moped or scooter is in the bicycle depot. Do this at the website Verlorenofgevonden.nl. Within 2 working days of removal, the council will list all bicycles, mopeds or scooters in the bicycle depot. Registered bicycles, mopeds or scooters are given a registration number.

Make an appointment

To collect your bicycle, moped or scooter, you first need to make an appointment. You will need the registration number under which your bicycle, moped or scooter is listed at Verlorenofgevonden.nl.

Collection

After making an appointment, you can collect your bicycle, moped or scooter from the bicycle depot at Steenen Hoofd 2, Breda.

  • Show a valid identity document.
  • Prove that the bicycle, moped or scooter is yours, e.g. with a receipt or a matching bike lock key.
  • Pay €25 handling and administration charges. Only card payments are accepted.

For how long will your bicycle, moped or scooter be stored?

  • 6 weeks, if the estimated value is less than € 150.
  • 13 weeks, if the estimated value is more than € 150.
  • Bicycles, mopeds or scooters that are not collected will be sold at the Vindingrijk second-hand goods store.

How to prevent your bicycle, moped or scooter from being removed

It is frustrating if your bicycle, moped or scooter is removed. But where are you allowed to park them? In one of the free bicycle storage areas, at a bicycle stand, or in temporary (pop-up) bicycle storage areas. This way we can keep the city tidy and safe together, especially in busy areas in the city centre.

Why has your bicycle, moped or scooter been removed?

The reason for your bicycle, moped or scooter being removed is listed at Verlorenofgevonden.nl. Below is an explanation of the different reasons.

Parked dangerously (Gevaarlijk geparkeerd)

Your moped, bicycle or scooter is parked in such a way that it poses a danger or obstruction to other users of public space. Your moped, bicycle or scooter will be removed immediately.

Parked incorrectly (Fout geparkeerd)

Your moped, bicycle or scooter is parked outside of the designated areas. The council will first hang a purple card on the handlebars with a warning. If the moped, bicycle or scooter is still there after 30 minutes, it will be taken to the bicycle depot.

Broken or unusable bicycle, moped or scooter (Fietswrak)

Your moped, bicycle or scooter is considered to be broken or unusable. It has been neglected and is no longer safe to ride. The council will first hang a blue card on the handlebars with a warming. If your moped, bicycle or scooter is still there after one day, it will be taken to the bicycle depot by the council.

In a green space (In groenvoorziening)

Your moped, bicycle or scooter is parked in a park, grassy area, or another green space which is maintained by the council. The council will first hang a green card from the handlebars with a warning. If your moped, bicycle or scooter is still there after 1 day, it will be taken to the bicycle depot by the council.

Abandoned bike (Weesfiets)

Your moped, bicycle or scooter has been parked apparently continuously for more than 28 days in a designated area.  The council will first hang a yellow card from the handlebars with a warning. If your moped, bicycle or scooter is still there after one day, it will be taken to the bicycle depot by the council.
