Driving licence
General
Has your driving licence almost expired? Renew it online, or arrange an appointment. Collect your driving licence in person, at desk number 10, no appointment is necessary. Applying for a driving licence for the first time? You cannot do that online. Arrange an appointment with the service desk.
Renew or apply
Passed your driver's licence and under 18 years? Apply for a supervising driver's pass (Dutch) first of all. You can then apply for your driving licence at the service desk.
Renew online
You can renew your driving licence online. It will be ready after 2 working days. Collect your driving licence in person from the City council. No appointment is necessary.
Apply for or renew a driving licence at the service desk
You can make an appointment to apply for or renew your driving licence at the service desk. It will be ready after 6 working days. Collect your driving licence in person from the City council. No appointment is necessary.
You will need the following
- a driving licence issued earlier
- if you don't have a driving licence, a different valid identity document
- passport photo, not older than 6 months, that meets the requirements
- debit or credit card

What you need to know
Lost or stolen
- If your driving licence has been lost or stolen, report this online (using DigiD) to the Netherlands Vehicule Authority (RDW) .
- You can also tell the service desk that you have lost your driving licence when you apply for your new one.
- If your driving licence has been lost or stolen, you can't renew your new driving licence online.
- Delivery of this can take more than 6 working days.
- It is not always possible to process an urgent request.
Urgent driving licence application
If you submit an urgent application before 14.00 hours, the driving licence will be ready for collection after 12.00 noon the next working day.
Certificate of Fitness
Visit www.cbr.nl to find out in which situations you have to complete a Certificate of Fitness. For example if, because of a health condition, you have a driving licence with limited validity.
