Address investigation
General
If you believe that someone is registered to your address but does not live there, you can request an address investigation. This is requested online using DigiD. The council checks whether the data in the Personal Records Database (BRP) are correct.
What you need to know
You are the owner, tenant, landlord or occupant of the home. You can quickly see how many people are registered at the address on mijn.overheid.nl.
If you don’t know the name of the person wrongly registered to your address, you can still request an address investigation.
How it works
- Request an address investigation online (log in using DigiD or eIDAS).
- The council checks whether the data in the Municipal Personal Records Database (BRP) are correct. If there is an error, this will be corrected.
- Take a look at the municipality's approach (in Dutch).
- The address investigation may include a home visit by an official from the BRP, or a notice may be sent.
- The time required for an investigation varies – some cases are resolved quickly but others are more complicated and could take several months.
- The person asking for the investigation will be told once this investigation has been completed. They can inquire about the status of the investigation
inbetween.
Costs
An address investigation is free of charge.
