Renew driving licence online

Has your driving licence almost expired (or need to add a category)? Apply to renew your driving licence online. Collect your driving licence in person after 2 working days. Collect your driving licence during the opening times from service desk 10 at the City District Offices. No appointment is necessary.

Are you applying for a driving licence for the first time? Arrange an appointment.

You will need the following

  • You are registered with Breda council​.
  • A driving licence (Dutch).
  • An activated DigiD app with one-time check of your ID. A step-by-step plan can be found on the website DigiD.
  • Depending on your age, health and driving licence categories, you might need a Certificate of Fitness. Visit the website (RDW) for more information. The CBR sends this Certificate directly to the council.  

If you don't meet these requirements, or if your driving licence has been lost or stolen, make an appointment

What you need to do (follow steps 1 to 7 in order)

  1. Have a passport photo taken at a photo booth or by a photographer who has been approved by the Netherlands Vehicle Authority (RDW). You will find a list of approved photographers (Dutch) on the RDW's website.
  2. The photographer will forward the photo and signature (for the new driving licence) securely and digitally to the RDW. Within a few minutes, you will receive an email from the RDW telling you whether your application has been approved. 
  3. Add the identity check on your DigiD app (Dutch). If you have done this before, you don't have to do this again.
  4. You can apply for your driving licence online (Dutch). 
  5. You can pay with iDEAL. 
  6. 2 days after the application, you will receive an email to collect your new driving licence.
  7. You can collect your driving licence in person during the opening times from service desk 10. No appointment is necessary.
