Reporting asbestos
General
There might be asbestos in corrugated sheets, linoleum, ceiling tiles, waste pipes, roofs and chimneys. If you wish to remove asbestos, you must always submit a demolition notification. This notification is free of charge.
What to do
Private individuals
A maximum of 35 m2 of asbestos
In the following cases, you are allowed to remove the asbestos yourself:
- screwed, undamaged and non-friable sheet materials (with the exception of roof slates)
- floor tiles and non-adhesive floor coverings
- unsecured objects (e.g. a planter)
For the above, submit a demolition notification at the environment service counter (omgevingsloket). You will hear from us within 5 working days of submitting the notification. We will tell you if your demolition notification has been approved. Once you have received this approval, you can remove the asbestos yourself and take it to the waste recycling centre. You can collect a special asbestos bag free of charge from the waste recycling centre.
More than 35 m2 of asbestos
For more than 35 m2 of asbestos, visit the environment service counter (omgevingsloket) and submit a demolition notification. You have to submit this at least 4 weeks before you plan to start work. Only a certified company can remove the asbestos.
Businesses
Asbestos originating from a business must always be removed by a certified company. Submit a demolition notification at the environment service counter (omgevingsloket).
