Submit a claim

General

You can hold the council responsible (liable) if you have suffered from damage/loss or injury and you think the council is responsible for this. Use the form to submit a claim.

What you need to know

Hold the council responsible (liable) for:

  • negligence and overdue maintenance, for example, if you suffer damage/loss due to a poorly maintained road surface
  • illegal acts by a council employee, for example, damage/loss caused by an accident or collision
  • work performed by or on behalf of the council

How it works

Enter information about the accident/incident on the web form. You will need the following information:

  • your telephone number
  • the date, time and location of the incident
  • a detailed description about what happened
  • evidence, such as photos of the damage, the location or the local situation
  • an invoice or bills showing the amount of the claim
  • one or more witness statements (if applicable)
  • an official report written by the police (if applicable)

The council will investigate whether the council caused the damage. Depending on how long this investigation takes, the council tries to deal with the claim within 8 weeks, but this can take longer.
